Bring Your Garden Inside for a Healthier Home

Plants are our photosynthesising friends. They clean the air, make our homes look better, and make our lives better in general. Plants make our lives better in a lot of ways.

They are pretty and make us happy, and we can sometimes treat them like friends as we watch them grow and thrive with our help.

Even if you don’t feel close to plants, there are still good things about them. Read on to learn more about how having an indoor garden can improve your health.

Plants reduce stress

Plants are beautiful to look at. Natural beauty has been shown to reduce stress, but having houseplants can reduce stress in other ways as well.

This is a great hobby if you want to do something relaxing. Before going to bed at night, you can walk around your house to check on your little friends.

Before you do the same for yourself, you should take care of their needs and show them love and care. Creating bedtime rituals can also help people with insomnia, and the calming effects of these rituals could help all of us get better sleep.

Plants also like to be talked to or sung to, which could help us feel better too.  You can tell your plants your darkest, most private secrets, and they will not tell anyone.

Think about putting plants in areas that aren’t being used right now, especially plants that don’t need much sun and can go in dark corners.  If you think about which plants will do best in a certain setting, you could have a home full of green friends who will make your life happier.

Plants purify the air.

Plants make pure oxygen on their own, which is what keeps us alive. Low oxygen levels can cause headaches and tiredness, so we could all use a little boost.

Not only do they clean the air, but they are also great at absorbing toxic chemicals that are still in the air after cleaning. To avoid toxins as much as possible, you can get plants like the Areca palm (also called the Butterfly Palm), which is great at removing formaldehyde, benzene, and carbon monoxide from the air.

Joscelyne Williams from Get a Window says that they look great under a window in the living room and that two of them on either side of a bay window make the room look exotic. Peace lilies are great for bathrooms because they clean the air of mould, which grows in damp places. If you have pets, though, put it on a high shelf because it is dangerous for them.

Plants also purify the air by lowering the amount of dust in the air, which is very important if you have allergies. This works best with plants like the spider plant or the dragon tree. The last thing plants do to improve air quality is keep humidity levels high.

This could be a problem if you live in a place that is already damp, but plants can be a blessing in dry months and places.  Your skin and throat will feel better if there is more moisture in the air, so if you think this would help, you could put a Boston fern in your bedroom.

They are perfectly suited to being sat under a window in the living room, and two of them on either side of a bay window make for an exotic-looking space, says Joscelyn

Plants boost healing

Even though it is well known that many of the medicines we use come from plants, when we get sick, we go straight to the doctor.

What if you could find the power to prevent and heal in your own home?

As far as keeping diseases away, the purifying properties of the plants we’ve talked about above do a good job. Choose plants like the gerbera daisy for your bedroom that also clean the air at night. This will assist you in obtaining the most restful and healing sleep possible.

There are also many plants that, when eaten, can improve our health over time or cure diseases. It’s a good idea to keep an aloe vera plant in the kitchen (in a pot with good drainage, as the plants don’t like their feet to get wet). Cut off their big, spiky leaves and put them in a blender to make a smoothie.

Even though it’s important to live a healthy life, sometimes life gets in the way and we don’t eat as well as we should. The aloe plant in the window of your kitchen can remind you to eat more healthy foods. With more than 30 vitamins and minerals, they can help you eat better if you haven’t been.

Also, they heal burns right away, so if you accidentally burn your arm on the inside of the oven, you can heal it quickly by rubbing some of the gel inside the leaves on the burned area.

Since having plants inside is good for your health in so many ways, why not bring some of your plants inside?  You can take cuttings from your plants outside and bring them inside, or you can move plants that are growing in soil into pots.

Pot gardening is easier than it looks, and it’s great for those of us who like to change our minds often about how our homes and gardens look.

In any case, if you want to make your home a healthier place for you and your family, adding plants can be a good place to start.
